5th Grade Math Curriculum - Go Math Grade 5 Edition
-
GO Math! K–6 offers an engaging and interactive approach to covering new state standards. Its seamless digital path and Write-in Student Edition ensure that students can access content at appropriate levels of depth and rigor.
Think Central - Online
Go Math has an online component named Think Central, in which students and teachers can access, print, interact, and complete their work, all online at any given time! This incorporates the technology component into the classroom and also helps students learn and develop 21st century life skills.
Chapter Text Books
There are 11 Chapters that the students will be completing in Grade 5. All of the Common Core Standards that the state of New Jersey require to be covered will be covered when teaching these booklets, but teachers will also supplement materials to make the lesson as less difficult as possible for students to master and understand whichever concept they will be introduced too.
Cooperative/Group Learning
This curriculum requires that students work in a cooperative manner, sharing thoughts and ideas with their classmates and teacher. At times, students will be asked to work individually, with partners, or with their teams in order to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the concepts presented in class.
Problem Solving
Problem-solving is a major component of the curriculum, students will be asked to solve problems that involve real-world situations, in order to gain the skills necessary to succeed in math outside of the classroom setting.
Books
At the beginning of each unit the student will receive a math book which must be kept in the student's binder along with class notes, and homework. Instruction for setting up their binders will be given in class. Students are not to write in their math book, all work along with the solutions to their mathematical problems should be written in their binders. It is important that students maintain a good supply of paper at all times. At the end of each unit of study, a new math book will be distributed and the old one will discarded. There is a fee for replacing lost books, therefore, students need to make sure that they keep their math books in their binders where they can be readily available to them.PARCC - Test PrepIn addition, students will be given supplemental worksheets to cover additional topics. Students are expected to keep all worksheets in their binders.
