The 2025 Princeton Summer Journalism Program application is now open!

The Princeton Summer Journalism Program (PSJP) is a year-long, tuition-free college access program at Princeton University for current juniors from lower-income backgrounds who are interested in journalism. Our goal is to diversify the organizations that shape our democracy by celebrating the connection between journalism and social change. Many applicants have formal journalism experience. Others do not but are interested in history, culture, political and social issues, art, media, and much more!

During the 2025-2026 program year, participants will complete a hybrid summer intensive that culminates in a 10-day residential experience on the Princeton University campus, where students will attend workshops by Princeton professors and professional journalists, visit real newsrooms, report on news stories, and learn skills and techniques of the trade to publish their own student newspaper, the Princeton Summer Journal.

During their senior academic year, participants will benefit from one-on-one college application guidance as they build their college lists, draft personal statements, apply for financial aid, and make final decisions about where they will ultimately attend college.

    Eligibility

To apply for PSJP, students must:

    1. Be a current junior (class of 2026) in high school at the time of application. No exceptions.
    2. Reside in the United States or Puerto Rico and plan to attend a domestic 4-year college. Students living broad, including U.S. citizens, or international students boarding in the U.S. will not be considered under any circumstances.
    3. Have a minimum unweighted grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0 (roughly an A- average).
    4. Have an interest in journalism.
    5. Meet at least one of the socioeconomic conditions below:
      • The combined income of your parent(s)/guardian(s) plus child support payments, if any, must not exceed $60,000.
      • You qualify for free or reduced-price lunch in your high school.
      • You qualify for a SAT or ACT fee waiver.
There is a place on the application for students to explain any extenuating circumstances related to family finances or academic concerns.

Cost: All program expenses during the residential experience, including housing, meals, and transportation to Princeton University, will be covered by the program.

If you or your student(s) are interested, please visit psjp.princeton.edu to learn more and sign up for an information session on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

    The Pre-College Application

    Hi Randall,

One of our goals at Brown Pre-College is to provide students with an experience that prepares them to be an undergraduate at any college or university.

This begins with our application process.

To apply to Brown Pre-College, students are asked to submit transcripts, an essay and optionally, a recommendation. The application review, acceptance and enrollment processes all mirror that of an undergraduate experience. This experience leaves students better prepared to engage in the college application process as they approach their senior year.

The first step for a student to complete the application is to create an account! Once students have created an account, they will be able to view our essay prompts so they can get a head start on drafting their essay.

Thank you for all the work that you do to prepare your students for their college journey and their summer activities!

    Dear Randy,

We’d like to offer your high school students the following three opportunities to explore their creative writing potential and cultivate their craft:

At the heart of our offerings for high school students is The Summer Writers Workshop. This intensive weeklong program brings together talented young writers to engage in workshops, explore diverse genres, and receive mentorship from esteemed faculty. The cost to attend is underwritten by the university, so more affordable than comparable programs, and in addition, we offer generous financial aid to students with demonstrated need. It’s a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in writing and creativity alongside peers who share their passion.
    DOWNLOAD SUMMER WRITERS WORKSHOP FLYER
Apprentice Writer provides high school students the chance to publish their work. This magazine showcases the voices of young writers from around the world, offering them an audience and the experience of seeing their work in print and online. In each issue, we award a cash prize to a single work from every genre (poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and photography). It’s an invaluable opportunity for your aspiring authors. Issue 42 of the magazine is available now!

Creative Writing Day invites high school students, teachers, and counselors to our campus for a day filled with workshops and seminars led by our faculty. We've designed this event to ignite creativity and introduce students to new perspectives in writing. Our next Creative Writing Day will be in November 2025.

Please share these opportunities with your students. We’d also be grateful if you’d encourage your talented current seniors to apply to our creative writing majorTheir application portfolio will automatically enter them into consideration for a creative writing scholarship.
